Practice Updates
February has flown by, bringing the classic North Carolina mix of spring warmth one day and winter chill the next. It’s unpredictable, sure but in some ways, it feels almost normal (especially compared to the wild ride that was January).
But if life feels far from normal for you right now, whether due to stress, change, or uncertainty, know that you’re not alone. Focus on what you can control starting with simple, tangible steps, like scheduling your appointments. (Okay, that was a stretch, but you get the idea! 😆)

Bits of Joy, Purpose, and Balance: Managing Stress and Emotional Balance
How Do You Know When Enough is Enough?
How do you know when you’ve hit your limit? When it’s time to walk away? When you’ve reached your “breaking point”?
Here’s the truth: You don’t always know.
That’s both the beauty and the challenge of life; it’s messy, unpredictable, and ever-changing.
Think back to a time when you went through something difficult. Maybe at the time, you thought, This is the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. But then, years later, another challenge came along, one that made the first seem small by comparison.
Our capacity for growth, love, and resilience is always expanding.
That’s the good news. But on the flip side, this can also lead to negative spirals—convincing ourselves that this time, this situation is the worst and that nothing will ever be harder.
Or maybe you find yourself stuck in an unhealthy situation; whether it's a toxic relationship, a draining job, or an ongoing struggle. You tell yourself: Just a little more time, and things will change.
So here’s the takeaway: Drop “can’t” from your vocabulary.
You can move through difficult seasons and come out stronger.
You can break the cycle and step into something healthier.
You can take small, intentional steps toward change.
If you find yourself caught in a spiral of always, never, should, must, pause. Reframe. Your own history is proof that you can handle hard things.
Mindful Moments with Mette: From Lonely to Connected
From the desk of Mette Finn
Loneliness isn’t just about being alone; it’s about feeling disconnected, even in the presence of others.
For many, February and Valentine’s Day stir up feelings of loss, isolation, or dissatisfaction in relationships. You might find yourself wondering:
Do I feel supported and connected?
Am I experiencing the intimacy I want?
Is there mutual respect and understanding?
The good news? Loneliness isn’t permanent. Here’s where to start:
Recognize your needs. Identify what’s missing in your relationships and what you truly need.
Take action. Strengthening connections often requires stepping outside your comfort zone, initiating difficult conversations, making time for deeper connections, or trying new ways to engage with others.
Seek support. Therapy can help you understand the roots of loneliness and develop strategies to create stronger, more meaningful relationships.
Feeling lonely doesn’t mean you’ve failed, it means something in your life needs attention. Start with self-awareness, and remember:
"The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself." – Mark Twain

Self-Care Corner: Embracing Growth This Season
🌷 Spring is coming, and with it, a chance to shake off winter’s heaviness and reawaken.
Here are a few ways to ease into renewal this season:
☀️ Soak in the light. Take a walk, sit in the sunshine, or simply open the windows and breathe in the fresh air.
🤝 Reconnect. After a season of isolation, plan a coffee date, a picnic, or a weekend trip with someone you care about.
🌱 Stretch before you bloom. Flowers don’t burst into full bloom overnight. They sprout, grow, and take their time. Give yourself that same patience.
And most importantly: Be kind to yourself. Growth doesn’t happen all at once.
One step at a time, you will get there.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected, having one of your sessions be only about managing stress and emotional balance might be a way to help you regain clarity and improve your well-being.
