Child Therapy in Kernersville, NC
Your kid isn't broken. They might just need a different kind of support to feel understood.
Your Kid Isn't Broken. They Might Just Need to Feel Understood.
When your child is struggling, whether it's meltdowns that seem to come out of nowhere, trouble making friends, or a recent diagnosis that left you with more questions than answers, it helps to have another steady adult in their corner who isn't you.
What Brings Families In
Big emotional outbursts that seem to escalate faster than you can respond to
Trouble making or keeping friends at school
Anxiety about school, tests, or being away from you
A recent diagnosis, like ADHD or autism, and not knowing what comes next
A kid who feels different from their peers and already knows it
Big changes at home, like divorce, a move, or a new sibling
Neurodivergent-Affirming Means We're Not Trying to Make Your Kid 'Normal'
Jenn Fuqua, LCSW, works with children starting around age 7, along with teens and adults. Her approach is neurodivergent-affirming, which means the goal isn't compliance or making a child act less like themselves. It's building skills that help your child navigate the world while still being who they are.
Parents Are Part of This Too
This isn't drop-off therapy where you find out what happened weeks later. Parents are looped in regularly, with coaching on what's working at home and how to support what's happening in session. When it's helpful, we can also coordinate with your child's school around IEP or 504 support.
My child hasn't been formally diagnosed with anything. Can they still start therapy?
Yes. You don't need a diagnosis to start. Sometimes therapy itself is part of figuring out what's actually going on.
What age range do you see?
Jenn Fuqua sees children starting around age 7, in addition to teens and adults.
Is this ABA-style therapy?
No. This is neurodivergent-affirming, talk and play-based therapy, not compliance training. We're not working to eliminate stimming, force eye contact, or make your child mask who they are.
Will I be involved in sessions?
Parents are looped in regularly. The exact structure depends on your child's age and needs, but you won't be left out of the process.
My child was just diagnosed with ADHD or autism and I don't know where to start.
That's a completely normal place to be. Therapy can be a steady first step while you sort out evaluations, school accommodations, and everything else that comes with a new diagnosis.
Do you work with the school?
When it's helpful, yes. We can coordinate with school-based supports or the IEP and 504 process.
