Anxiety Therapy in Kernersville, NC

You don't have to
white-knuckle your way through every day.
The racing thoughts at 2am. The way your stomach drops before a meeting. Avoiding the thing you actually want to do because what if something goes wrong? If that sounds familiar, you're not broken. You're anxious. And anxiety is something we help people with every day. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
At JPB Counseling in Kernersville, NC, we work with real people dealing with real anxiety. Not textbook cases. You. Let's figure out what's going on and actually do something about it.
Does any of this sound like you?
-
Your brain won't turn off, even when your body is exhausted.
-
You overthink conversations that happened three days ago.
-
You say "yes" to things you don't want to do because saying "no" feels worse.
-
You avoid situations - parties, phone calls, new things - because the anticipation is too much.
-
You've gotten pretty good at looking fine on the outside.
-
Physical symptoms - tight chest, trouble sleeping, stomach issues

-
You keep waiting to feel more ready, more confident, more like yourself. That day keeps not coming.

You've been managing this for a while. Managing is exhausting. There's a difference between managing anxiety and actually getting better, and that's what therapy is for.
Wait - is what I'm feeling actually anxiety?
Great question. Here's the honest answer: anxiety is normal. Every human has it. It's your brain's way of keeping you safe, and in small doses, it does exactly that.
But for a lot of people, that alarm system gets stuck on. It starts firing when there's no real threat. It starts running the show.
When anxiety crosses from 'useful' into 'this is running my life,' that's when it becomes something worth taking seriously and treating.
Anxiety shows up differently for everyone. It might look like:
-
Generalized Anxiety (GAD): chronic, low-level worry that never really turns off
-
Social Anxiety: dread around other people, performance situations, or being judged
-
Panic Attacks: sudden, overwhelming physical and emotional waves that feel terrifying
-
Health Anxiety: constant fear that something is wrong with your body
-
OCD-related Anxiety: intrusive thoughts you can't shake and compulsions to manage them
-
High-Functioning Anxiety: you look totally fine. You are not totally fine.
-
Anxiety that shows up as anger: irritability, snapping, short fuse
-
Anxiety that shows up as physical symptoms: insomnia, stomach issues, tension headaches
If you recognize yourself in any of these, or if you've just had this low hum of unease for so long you can't remember life without it, therapy can help. Actually help. Not just cope-and-manage help. Real change.
How we actually treat anxiety (not just talk about it)
We're not going to tell you to 'just breathe' and send you home with a worksheet. Anxiety therapy at JPB Counseling is active, personalized, and built around you. Not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Some of the approaches we use:
APPROACH 1: CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is one of the most researched treatments for anxiety that exists. It works by helping you recognize the thought patterns that are feeding your anxiety. Giving you real tools to interrupt them. Not suppress them. Not ignore them. Actually change how your brain responds. Jessica Beckman uses CBT as a core part of her anxiety work.
APPROACH 2: Exposure & Relational Work
Exposure-Based Work & Real Skills
Anxiety shrinks your world. Avoidance feels like relief in the moment, and makes everything worse over time. We help you gently expand back into the life you want, building tolerance and confidence as you go. This isn't about forcing you into things that scare you. It's about building up to them with support.
APPROACH 3: Personalized Approach
A Flexible, Personalized Approach
Here's the thing... there's no one playbook for anxiety. Our therapists draw from multiple frameworks and actually listen to what's working for you and what isn't. You're a person, not a diagnosis.
Questions we get a lot about anxiety therapy
Q: How do I know if my anxiety is bad enough for therapy?
A: If it's affecting your daily life, sleep, relationships, work, and your ability to enjoy things, it's worth talking to someone. You don't have to hit rock bottom to deserve support. Honestly, the earlier you come in, the faster things tend to improve.
Q: What's the difference between anxiety and just being stressed?
A: Stress usually has a source and fades when that source goes away. Anxiety tends to stick around, show up without a clear reason, and be harder to talk yourself out of. Both are real. Both are worth addressing. Therapy helps with either.
Q: Do you prescribe medication for anxiety?
A: We're therapists, not prescribers. So no, we don't prescribe medication. What we can do is talk through whether medication might be worth exploring alongside therapy and give you a referral to a great prescriber if that feels right. Therapy and medication together often work better than either alone.
Q: How long does anxiety therapy usually take?
A: It genuinely depends. Are you ready for change? Are you ready to put in the work? Therapy, like most things in life, requires participation. To see results, you have to be engaged. Some people can see results in a matter of a few months. For anxiety that's been running the show for years, it takes longer. We'll talk about goals early on and give you an honest read on timelines, because we know your time (and money) matters. We have clients who have grown so much. Those who have transitioned from 2-3 times a month to 2-3 times a year, and those are the true success stories in our profession that we love to see back in our office. True change and growth can happen. But it requires both parties to be aligned on the goals.
Q: Do you offer telehealth for anxiety therapy?
A: Yes! We offer telehealth and in-person anxiety therapy to clients anywhere in North Carolina. Sessions are through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
Q: Does insurance cover anxiety therapy?
A: We're in-network with UHC, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, and Medcost. Most insurance plans cover mental health therapy. Call the number on the back of your card and ask about your behavioral health benefits. We can also walk you through what questions to ask. We currently do not take any Medicare or Medicaid plans
