There is a new therapist in town here at JPB Counseling. JPB Counseling is happy to welcome John Adkins to our team. John works with adults who are ready to explore patterns that feel difficult to shift and take thoughtful steps toward meaningful change.

John provides therapy for adults who may be navigating trauma, substance use, grief, or the long term impact of feeling misunderstood or unsupported. Many of the clients he works with have tried therapy before and felt disappointed or unseen. John takes those experiences seriously and approaches therapy with care, intention, and respect for each individual’s story.

John often works with clients who are living in survival mode rather than crisis mode. They may feel disconnected, worn down, or unsure how to move forward. Common concerns include childhood trauma, complex PTSD, substance use or a history of addiction, religious trauma, grief and loss, LGBTQ plus stress, and ongoing feelings of marginalization or isolation. Clients do not need the right words to begin. Therapy is a collaborative process, and understanding develops over time.

Reaching out for support can feel especially difficult when past experiences have felt invalidating. John understands that hesitation and views it as part of the work rather than something to push past. He listens first, taking time to understand before offering insight. His approach is calm, steady, and intentional. When appropriate, he will gently challenge thought patterns or behaviors that may be keeping clients stuck, always with compassion and honesty. John believes therapy works best when empathy and directness exist together. He meets clients where they are, not where they think they should be. Healing does not happen all at once, but progress is possible through small, meaningful steps that restore a sense of control and balance.

John is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. His background allows him to support clients with complex and layered concerns while tailoring therapy to individual goals and lived experiences. Clients often describe him as attentive, thoughtful, and grounding.

John offers a complimentary consultation call so clients can ask questions, share what they are hoping to work on, and decide whether the fit feels right. He is currently accepting new clients at JPB Counseling in Kernersville, North Carolina. You can learn more about starting therapy with John by visiting jpbcounseling.com.
