💼 Most men were taught how to work..

🛠️ How to solve problems.

💪 How to push through.

🤝 How to take care of the people counting on us.

But what many men weren't taught was what to do when the challenge wasn't something to fix, but something to carry.

😟 Anxiety.

🔥 Burnout.

💔 Grief.

🌧️ A relationship that's drifting.

The pressure of trying to be a good husband, father, son, friend, or leader while quietly wondering if you're doing any of it well.

You don't need to be falling apart to benefit from support. Sometimes you just need a place where you don't have to hold everything together for an hour.

Strength and Support Can Exist Together

Many men become incredibly good at functioning.

They show up for work.

They keep their commitments.

They take care of the people around them.

From the outside, everything looks fine.

But stress doesn't always announce itself. It often shows up as irritability, trouble sleeping, withdrawing from the people you care about, feeling emotionally checked out, or simply wondering why life feels harder than it used to. The National Institute of Mental Health notes that mental health concerns in men can look different than people expect, and many men delay seeking support even when they're struggling.

That matters.

Men are significantly less likely than women to access mental health services, yet they are nearly four times more likely to die by suicide. In 2023, the suicide rate for men was almost four times higher than for women in the United States.

Reaching out isn't a sign that you've run out of strength.

It's often the beginning of using it differently.

Therapy Isn't About Having the Perfect Words

One of the biggest misconceptions about therapy is that you need to know exactly what you want to say before you walk through the door.

You don't.

Some people come because anxiety has gotten louder.

Others because work has become overwhelming.

Some want to communicate better with their spouse or children.

Others are navigating OCD, ADHD, trauma, or life after a major transition.

Therapy isn't about having all the answers.

It's about creating space to understand what's happening and building practical tools that help you move forward.

Meet Josh May, LCSW

Josh May believes therapy works best when it feels like an honest conversation.

His approach is collaborative, down-to-earth, and practical. He creates an environment where clients don't have to perform, prove anything, or pretend they've got it all figured out.

Josh enjoys working with men across many stages of life and has experience helping clients navigate:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

  • ADHD and Autism

  • Anger and emotional regulation

  • Relationship and communication challenges

  • Life transitions and identity changes

  • Substance use concerns

  • LGBTQIA+ affirming care

Whether you're trying to become a more present partner, navigate fatherhood, recover from difficult experiences, or simply understand yourself better, therapy can provide the space to do that work.

Currently Accepting New Clients

Josh is currently accepting new clients for in-person and Telehealth counseling throughout North Carolina.

He is in network with:

You Don't Have to Wait Until Things Get Worse

You don't have to be in crisis.

You don't have to have the right words.

You don't even have to know exactly what you need.

If something in your life isn't working the way it used to, that's reason enough to start a conversation.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do isn't pushing through.

It's letting someone walk alongside you for a while.
