Pregnancy Loss Counseling in Kernersville, NC

Your baby was real. Your grief is real. You don't have to carry it quietly.

A Loss the World Doesn't Always See

Maybe it happened before anyone else knew you were pregnant. Maybe you'd already told everyone, set up the nursery, picked out a name. Either way, you lost someone you were already making room for.

Pregnancy loss is one of the most isolating kinds of grief. People don't know what to say, so they say the wrong thing or nothing at all. You're expected to bounce back quickly, often while your body is still recovering and reminding you of what happened.

At JPB Counseling in Kernersville, we make space for that grief without rushing you through it.

The Losses We Support

  • Miscarriage, early or late

  • Stillbirth

  • Ectopic or molar pregnancy

  • Infant loss after birth

  • Ending a pregnancy for medical reasons

  • Failed IVF transfers and infertility-related loss

  • Loss of a twin or multiple

There's no hierarchy of grief here. If it was a loss to you, it counts.

What Grief After Pregnancy Loss Can Look Like

Grief doesn't always look like crying. After a pregnancy loss, it can look like:

  • Numbness, or feeling like you're watching yourself from the outside

  • Guilt, and replaying every choice you made

  • Anger, including at people with healthy pregnancies, and then guilt about the anger

  • Avoiding baby showers, social media, or certain aisles at Target

  • Distance or tension with your partner, who may be grieving differently

  • Fear about trying again, or about a current pregnancy

Some of this can overlap with depression, anxiety, or trauma, especially if the loss was sudden, frightening, or medically complicated. That's part of why having support matters.

How Jenn Works With Loss

Jenn Fuqua, LCSW brings more than 13 years of clinical experience, specialized training in Trauma-Focused CBT, and newly completed training in perinatal mental health to grief work. She's currently working toward her Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C). She understands that loss can be both grief and trauma, especially when it involved an emergency, a hospital stay, or news delivered in a way that still replays in your head.

Jenn won't hand you a timeline or tell you it happened for a reason. She'll help you make sense of what you're carrying, find your footing again, and figure out what honoring your baby looks like for you. Jenn is currently accepting new clients.

Perinatal Expertise on Our Team

Jessica Beckman, LCMHC, LCAS, PMH-C, NCC, founder of JPB Counseling, holds the Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C). That training covers the full perinatal period, including loss, and it shapes how our practice approaches this work.

Mette Finn, LCSW specializes in women's mental health, pregnancy, and postpartum care, and can be a steady support if you're pregnant again after a loss. She offers both in-person and telehealth sessions.

Pregnancy After Loss

If you're pregnant again, you may feel hope and dread at the same time. That's normal, and it's something therapy can help with. Our pregnancy therapy page covers support during pregnancy, including pregnancy after loss.

It was an early miscarriage. Is it okay to need therapy for that?

Yes. The size of your grief isn't measured in weeks. If it's weighing on you, it's worth talking about.

My loss was years ago. Is it too late?

No. A lot of people come in long after a loss, often when a new pregnancy, an anniversary, or another life change brings it back up.

Can my partner and I come together?

Yes. Grieving together can be hard when you're grieving differently. Sessions can include your partner when that's helpful.

I'm pregnant again and terrified. Can you help?

Yes. Pregnancy after loss comes with its own kind of anxiety, and therapy can help you hold hope and fear at the same time.

Will my insurance cover grief counseling?

We accept BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, and Medcost. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare. Call us before scheduling and we'll help you check your benefits.
